The City of York is a World Heritage Site. Its stands today as a medieval walled city, founded by the Romans, invaded by the Vikings, and home to the Yorkist contingent of the Wars of the Roses. The historical importance of York is reflected in the many buildings. You do not have to visit a museum to see the city’s past in plain site.

Best known as a university town dating from 1209, Cambridge has far more to offer that just as a place of learning. Compact and historic, the city is easy to get around on foot and has a wealth of museums, galleries and other places to explore. First and foremost is the Fitzwilliam Museum, home to not only works by Monet, Van Gogh and Picasso, but also a vast store of historical artefacts. If you’d rather just enjoy a picturesque wander, there are many parks to visit and bike hires.

Most famous for its cathedral and castle, Lincoln is one of England’s oldest cities, with Roman remains amongst the mainly medieval structures we can see today. Both the 11th-century Norman castle and the cathedral, which for 200 years was the world’s tallest building, are located high on the hill overseeing the rest of the city. On a clear day, Lincoln Cathedral can even be seen on the horizon from Harlaxton. By visiting both you’ll have the opportunity to see two of England’s oldest and most important historical and architectural landmarks first-hand.

A major center of learning and medicine during the Age of Enlightenment, it is also home to the world’s largest platform for creative freedom during the month of August and of course, Harry Potter!

Leicester (pronounced Less-ter) is one of England’s oldest and most diverse cities and is a centre for culture, sport and food. Leicester has a long and rich history to explore, notably the recently discovered resting place of King Richard III. Whilst the remains of this once-lost monarch have been moved and reburied with dignity in Leicester Cathedral, the original burial site is open to the public so you can learn about the bizarre circumstances of the King’s rediscovery and his life prior to his death.

As the capital of the UK, London needs no introduction. It is a 21st century city with history dating back to the Roman times. London has a strong influence on world art, fashion, education, entertainment, healthcare, tourism and much more. Visits can be found in London for any subject matter or theme and we are always happy to suggests visits along your chosen theme.

Nottingham is a center of culture and innovation, but is probably best known for Sherwood Forest and the legend Robin Hood. It is home to many sports teams, such as Nottingham Forest Football Club, Nottingham Trent Cricket Ground and also Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, billed as the oldest inn in England and where the Knights Templar used to stay on their journey to Jerusalem.

We welcome cohorts of students with or without a faculty leader from their home institution. A cohort can be as small as 10 students or as large as you like, our largest currently being 25 students. The cohort can have a required class or two from your home institution taught by one of your own professors if desired. We’d ask that this professor teach 1 – 2 classes open to all students at the Manor also. Your students can have free choice of the other classes onsite, or you could set them required classes if you prefer. For a cohort of 10+ students we could also organize classes not currently listed in our course descriptions. Please reach out for more information.  

We organize 30-40 custom faculty led programs each year. Each program is unique and tailored to your requirements and can be any length you wish. This model is designed for a group leader to come to with a group of students from their home institution, although the group can come from a combination of institutions if you work with them to recruit students. We offer either an itinerary for one topic for the whole group, or an itinerary for a larger group with multiple subject matters. This model ensures a lower price as the group is larger. You may simply reside at the Manor and do day trips, or you could choose overnight trips, either way relaxed in the knowledge that we take care of all the bookings.

Harlaxton Experiences are programs on a specific theme hosted and run by Harlaxton College with a group leader. Students or adults from across the USA sign up individually for these experiences.
